Four years as a teacher. Check! Six more months of vocational training/preparatory service. In English, that sounds pretty ok. In German, "noch sechs Monate Referendariat" sounds like hell. And it feels like hell. Totally.

Berlin, 09.09.2021 Stress test

To give you an example of how stressed life has been, let me tell you the story of the Berlin literature festival. My German seminar teacher is quite a fan, and she offered we should visit the festival instead of going to our seminar this week. I bought tickets to Charlotte Van den Broecks lecture "Ventures. 13 tragic buildings and their creators". It was supposed to be a lecture not only about failed architects, but about failure itself. I went to Wedding to pick up my husband, we had a nice stroll around the neighbourhood and enjoyed some Taiwanese dinner at the Cozymazu and went back to the Silent Green. Strangely enough, no people queuing. I asked the security guy about the "failure-lecture." He smiled broadely, since I actually failed to check the time slot correctly. We were three hours late. We still enjoyed our evening out, but instead of some fancy lecture I had to spend my next evening watching some internet lecture on some kids book and almost freaked out just because I did not have the time to finish it. Not enough time to prepare for work. Definitely NO time for personal contacts. No time to get sick. No time to slow down.

Berlin, 20.09.2021 Farm

A day trip to a local farm. First, the kids were disappointed, because there were no animals. But then, they were super excited to go on a treasure hunt: we digged for potatoes and onions and washed, peeled and cut everything into small pieces. Everyone loved the potato soup!

Zauchwitz, 03.10.2021 Treasure hunt II

The German name of the mushroom we found today is too funny: "Krause Glucke". I couldn`t find a proper translation, it seems to be called either 'Sparassis crispa' or 'cauliflower fungus'. But "frizzy hen" is a lot more amusing. Anyway, we were lucky to find one, it only happens every ten years. Very yummy!

It`s been too long. So Tobi and I took a train from Aachen to Paris to spent a couple of days there. We had a blast. Plenty of great food, art and sunshine.
