Just now and then, once in a while, I get really really homesick for my alternate home, Shanghai. It usually happens in late autumn, when our Osmanthus tree is in bloom. It definitely happens each time I am eating a bowl of majiangmian at the Lonmen noodle house. It sometimes happens drinking Bubble tea or green tea ice cream. It might happen while listening to Chinese strangers quarreling about vanities along my bus route. But today, this got me, and it hit me hard. I was waiting for my friend Hungchi to share Hotpot with me in a Chinese restaurant and I was studying the menu until this caught my eye: Duftendes Kleines fettes Schaf. Fragrant little fat sheep. I could imagine this fragrant little fat sheep, hopping on a bloomy meadow in late April. And at the same time, this image - come on - it still is a dish to be eaten! - made me laugh and made me cry and made me miss this chaotic crappy lovey place so far away so much. I guess this will stay.
