Hamburg, 28.09.2013 Waterfront weekend

We went to Hamburg to visit Joost, welcome Katinkas and Stefans newborn son Jorma and hug my grandaunt Moyce. We were lucky since we could walk around the Alster enjoying sunshine and blue sky - hope to be back soon!

Bamboo land, 01.10.2013 Family fun center?

Mias innermost birthday wish was to celebrate her day at an indoor playground called 'bamboo land' - no bamboo to be seen there, but a lot of colourful plastic which reminds me of similar places in China! The kids had a great time, obviously.

Brandenburg/Kassel, 03.10.2013 Hunting instincts

It is THAT time of the year again, and it was fun having friends joining in the hunt.

Inden, 09.10.2013 Opencast

It's always intersting to visit sites next to my hometown that I never went to before. This time, we chose a very windy morning to take a look at a huge opencast coal mine I haven't been to before. (But it is also great as well to visit places I love over and over again, as the inner city of Aachen - beautiful as always!)

Kerkrade/NL, 11.10.2013 Continium

We rode this technical merry-go-round until I was really sick, but the pics are worth it! Lovely museum with lots of things to explore, for kids as well as for grownups. You could try driving a car, use cable phones so old the kids wouldn't recognize them as phones, go on a journey to see where our food comes from, how it is digested... and finally build a superfly with your grandpa!

Berlin, 16.10.2013 Ravioli Daniel style

I am just reading Jen Lin-Lius 'Nudeln fuers Volk' and I quote yesterdays last sentence how I remember it: 'What is richness? I think we are rich if we are able to walk and to choose what we eat.' And what a great richness that is - we took an evening to prepare Ravioli filled with rapunzel/corn salad and ricotta cheese and beef - strangely, even the kids tried and liked it. Preparing meals every day is kind of a challenge, but a rewarding one, since the more time you spend on the preparation, the better the results. And since the kids are growing older, it is getting a little easier every day to try out unknown things. Mia is very much into Japanese, selfmade Sushi and soybeans, while Moritz prefers Turkish, meatballs and fish Chinese style. I am thankful for being able to buy all the necessary ingredients - tropical fruit and green vegetables are harder to get and worse in quality, but I am still impressed we are actually able to buy frozen Mochi and our most beloved brand of frozen Udon noodle from Japan, as well as all kinds of Miso and Tofu. Lucky us!

Berlin, 31.10.2013 Costumes

This year, even Moritz worked a while on his halloween costume, a magician. Mia dressed up as witch, and I simply enjoyed a lovely evening with Luka, Kilian and Sonja visiting, a crazy hot wine and lots of neighbouring friends all meeting in the front yard.
